World Theatre Day Special: 9 Theatre Actors in Bollywood
March 27 marks World Theatre Day and it is undoubted to say that Bollywood got its finest actors straight out of the theatre. While we lost a gem Irrfan Khan last year who gave the best cinematic experience to his audience and made us realise so much in such less time. The actor may have left us too early but he stays immortal in his work. This is the beauty of theatre that no matter what, the actors stay immortal in their work. It would be a surprise to many but Late Raj Kapoor was a theatre actor before he started working in Bollywood and no wonder his work in Bollywood stands out uniquely in movies like Mera Naam Joker, Bobby, Shree 420 and the list goes on.
On the occasion of World Theatre Day, it is indeed our pleasure to honour the gems Bollywood got from the theatre.
Deepak Dobriyal
Not an infamous name, Deepak Dobriyal won our hearts each time he came on the silver screen and with the golden acting skills and perfect comic timings, he made us laugh out loud. Seen in movies like Tanu Weds Manu, Hindi Medium and Angrezi Medium, he was indeed lucky enough to have worked with the legend Irrfan Khan twice.
Kalki Koechlin
We all related to her character Aditi in Ayan Mukherji’s Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani. Kalki made her Bollywood in DevD and have been seen in so many blockbusters ever since. Fun Fact!! Kalki’s last name isn’t pronounced the way it is written, it is rather pronounced as ‘Kekla’!! Apart from Bollywood, she worked in some amazing web series including Made in Heaven, Sacred Games and Bhram.
Nimrat Kaur
We all saw her impeccable work in Lunchbox and Airlift. Nimrat Kaur might have started her acting career with an American TV show but we saw the best of her work in Bollywood. It is undoubtedly to say that we all loved her character in Lunchbox as a simple Indian housewife with a twisted story.
Rajkummar Rao
The actor who won over our hearts with his talent and acting skills in movies like Shaadi Mein Zaroor Aana, Stree and Kai Po Che. Who would have thought that a simple boy from Delhi would become the face behind so many blockbuster movies? Well, his actual name is Raj Kumar Yadav and Rajkummar Rao is more of a stage name for him!!
Lillete Dubey
We saw her in Bhagban, Housefull, Kal Ho Na Ho, Chalte Chalte, Gadar and so many more movies that the list would go on and on. Lillete Dubey had her fair share of vibrant characters and it is indeed a pleasure to see her work as she brings something unique to the table with each of her characters. We have seen her portray each emotion effortlessly and it would be a shame to not mention her beautiful and expressive eyes. She brings the lines to life: Let eyes do the talking!
Nawazuddin Siddiqui
Baap ka, Dada ka, sabka badla lega re tera Faizal!!
The actor behind the legendary character ‘Faizal’, Namazuddin Siddique likes to leave behind his characters and move forward in search of another. This nature of Nawaz is one of the reasons why each of his characters sounds fresh and unheard of. From DevD to Sacred Games, each of his characters tells an uniques story. Indeed his characters become meme material but aren’t those memes legit!!
Richa Chadda
I guess we all know her as the Lady Don from Yamuna Paar!! Her character ‘Bholi Punjaban’ in the Fukrey series have a different fanbase altogether. Richa Chadda has her way with her characters and likes to play bold, unapologetic characters, the way she is. Not to miss that Fukrey 3 is in the making and we can’t wait to see more of Bholi Punjaban!!
Huma Qureshi
From Pusha Pandey from Jolly LLB 2 to Munniya from Dehd Ishqiya, Huma Qureshi is a bubbly person and indeed a fine actress. She made her mark in Bollywood with movies like Gangs Of Wasseypur and Badlapur.
Radhika Apte
Talking of some fine actors and not talking about Radhika Apte would be an injustice to everyone. Netflix’s favourite actress as we saw in so many memes. She is indeed a fabulous actress, yes, critically acclaimed!! We saw her in so many web series that we might have lost the count in the middle!!
It’s not just World Theatre Day for us, it is also Appreciate the Talent Day!! I mean, the heading might have just said “Bollywood’s Gem” and we all would have gone with that as well.
